Ollie’s

If you drive through Milton on a Friday night- you’ll see a hundred cars parked in front of “Ollie’s” on Highway 90.  This size crowd could only mean one of two things; either the food here is amazing OR there’s nothing else to do in Milton on a Friday night.

Actually, it could mean both.

Nevertheless, when you put a sign out front that says “Best Burger in Town” you know we’re coming to check it out.  It’s our responsibility to the public to validate these claims.

The locals tell us this place is known for wings, karaoke and dollar beer on Fridays (hence the crowded parking lot.)  We can attest to the fact that they do have some amazing wings and homemade chips.

As for the burger; we’d have to see.  It’s called “famous” on the menu so we were anxious.

The dining room is filled with televisions, leather clad Harley riders, former Cheering captains and would-be karaoke stars.  In short, it’s the perfect place to sit back and enjoy a burger.

The patty is an 8 oz. above average frozen patty.  It was thought flavorless by some, but a touch of salt and pepper could have remedied that.  They will cook the burger to order and do an excellent job of that.

The cheese was a mild cheddar variety that looks great but tastes little.

The produce (shredded lettuce, sliced tomato and onion) was below average and the bun was bulky.

Some judges labeled the bottom bun a “sponge” that caught the grease, tomato juice and burger drippings.  That isn’t always a negative, unless the sponge completely disintegrates, which it did.

In total, Ollie’s Famous burger finished with a final score of 6.03

That hardly makes it the best burger in town- but where else in Milton can you watch a middle-aged accountant perform his rendition of “Wanted Dead or Alive” by Bon Jovi?

The answer is nowhere, my friend.

Look, we’re not making them take the sign down- that would mean fighting off a hundred angry bikers, two former cheer captains and one short Bon Jovi impersonator.

No one on our Panel has that sort of strength.

We will however, continue our search for Northwest Florida’s best burger.

Check out Ollie’s in Milton, let us know what you think.  Order their Kickin’ Chicken Dip and some chips.

Then check back next week as the NWFL Burger Tour rolls on.
